Two Alabama industry veterans were recognized with awards during the Alabama Grocers Association’s 2016 convention, held recently in Point Clear. The National Grocers Association (NGA), alongside the Alabama Grocers Association (AGA), honored Jack V. Greer Sr., president of Autry Greer & Sons Inc., with the NGA Spirit of America Award. Fjallraven Kanken No2 AGA recognized Keith Lusk, national account representative with Golden Flake Snack Foods, with the Spirit of Alabama Award. The NGA Spirit of America Award recognizes dedication and service to the independent supermarket industry. Mochilas Kanken Mini “NGA is pleased to present this distinguished award to Jack V. We are grateful for his dedication and support of our industry.” After finishing a career with the U.S. Army in 1948, Greer began his career within the grocery industry alongside his great-grandfather, grandfather, father, uncles, brother and cousin and worked in various positions from bagging groceries to supervising and managing stores. He currently serves as the president of the Mobile Association for the Blind, the Mobile Exploreum and the Downtown Rotary Club. Prior to that he served on the Mobile Rotary Foundation Board for 20 years where he oversaw principal investments and disbursements to primarily handicapped children and Easter Seals. The NGA Spirit of America Award, established in 1982, honors key industry and community figures who have provided leadership in the areas of community service and government relations on behalf of a free and independent food distribution system. Since its inception, NGA has presented this award to distinguished leaders who serve the grocery industry and public interest, including Presidents George H. W. Bush and Gerald Ford. Lusk receives Spirit Of Alabama Award The Spirit of Alabama Award was presented by Taylor and given to Golden Flake’s Lusk for his unwavering dedication to the association throughout the years and his active and effective participation in the “Buy Alabama’s Best” Campaign; Lusk is an advocate for products grown, made, manufactured and produced in the state of Alabama. Fjallraven Kanken Big “The Alabama Grocers Association truly embodies the work of the grocery community in Alabama and is the voice of the grocery industry in the state of Alabama.” Lusk joined the Alabama Grocers Association’s board of directors in 2005 and quickly established himself as a dedicated hard worker. He currently serves as VP and has been the convention committee chairman for the last five years. Lusk won the association’s Manufacturer of the Year Award in 2008 and has worked behind the scenes to help the group grow and prosper. He currently is VP of the Alabama Food Manufacturers and Producers Association’s board of directors. “He has worked tirelessly for the AGA and is always the first to volunteer when there is a need. For the last five years Keith and his committee have helped to grow our annual convention and under his leadership the convention profit has seen a 20 percent increase.
